Swahili Worship

This morning was a brand new experience for me — I led the liturgy at worship in Swahili — and it was so much fun! Gaspar (the Tanzanian doctor who lives in Rochester and travels with us) and Bashiri (our faithful driver) have been fantastic teachers and encouragers. We spent most of the long drive yesterday from Arusha to Nkungi Village working on perfecting my Swahili pronunciation. In part of my greeting I shared our Zumbro mission statement with the congregation and they loved it. Worship was great … and only 3 hours long!

Zumbro’s mission statement in Swahili:
Safari yetu ya imani inutuwezesha kujenga daraja la kuelewa na amani, kusaidia na kuhudumia kwa uadilifu na kushirikiana tumaini ya yesu.

Our group gathered after worship with the pastors. In Tanzania, all important meetings happen under a tree.
