Coming to Tanzania has been a goal and a dream for many years. I have waited to come as my purpose up until now has been primarily focused on raising my 3 wonderful children and experiencing mission work with them. I have gone on many trips thru Zumbro and continually find new ways to appreciate God in all things. When I was asked again this year to come to Tanzania, I was happy to say “yes.” I was excited and nervous at the same time to experience this country.

I did a bit of research prior to coming so I could better prepare myself for the experience. I quickly realized that nothing could prepare me for the beauty of this country. There is a rare beauty in the simple things that cannot be appreciated until you come and see it yourself. I am acutely aware of the sense of appreciation and calm for what you have. The people are “present” and don’t seem to be in a rush to move on to their next task. There is much laughter and curiosity everywhere we go. I also see poverty and need that creates in me a desire to serve.

A couple nights ago we visited with Bishop Gunda in his modest home and he asked that we continue to come and bring our “gifts” to the hospital so that it can continue to improve to serve the people of Nkungi village. As I sit here this evening with my fellow travelers, I am excited to embark on my day tomorrow where I will be able to teach nursing students and experience care in the hospital. I ask that you all continue to pray for our service and especially pray for the continued mission of Zumbro here at Iambi Hospital where the need is great. God is good!
