Day 2 – #RiseUpELCA High School Youth Gathering in Detroit

Wednesday…our 2nd day in Detroit.

A Day in pictures:  Our first stop of the day was the Ford Factory Rouge Plant Tour.  A little known fact:  630 Ford F-150s are made at this Dearborn, MI plant every 10 hour shift.  12 colors of the F-150 were in production today.  Soak in the beauty of the red F-150 in the showroom in the picture below. No test drives were allowed! Bummer.

A unique trip happened, when we took some to time to view downtown Detroit from the Peoplemover.

On our way to Ford Field, we found these adorable children in a statue outside the YMCA, so our Zumbro group joined in the fun, as well.

Then, as we got closer to Ford Field, we bumped into a former friend and pastor at Zumbro, Carol Solovitz.  And, finally, the crown jewel of the day happened–during the opening evening Youth Gathering event, our Zumbro group had been chosen to be dancers during the closing number, RISE UP, written and performed by Christian rapper, Agape.  We were a part of only 500 dancers, on the floor, in a stadium full of 30,000 people.  It was a moving experience and our Zumbro group were so pumped when they finished, as you can see in the picture.

A tweet sent during the evening event stated that ‘Ford Field looked like a giant bag of Skittles,’ (referencing the array of t-shirt colors).

In closing, we were reminded that “If you want to go fast, go alone.  If you want to go further, go together.”  –Rise Up Together, YG15
